Stephanie B. Thorne, M. M. - Owner/Instructor

About the Instructor

Stephanie B. Thorne holds a Masters of Music degree from Butler University, Indianapolis, Indiana and a Bachelor of Musical Arts from Oklahoma Baptist University, Shawnee, Oklahoma. 

She studied under Albert Hodges (retired band director, Southwestern College, Winfield, Kansas), Betty Johnson (former principal bassoon Oklahoma City Philharmonic), Sandra Flesher Sheldon (former principal oboe Oklahoma City Philharmonic, currently principal oboe and coordinator of New Hampshire Music Festival) and Charles Rader (former assistant principal bassoon Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra).

Her specialized studies were in bassoon and piano performance, music theatre, ethnomusicology, music psychology, and music history.  Her Master Thesis project studied the use of music in the medicinal practices of the Teton Sioux.

She was elected as a member of the Inter-Collegiate Band in the state of Oklahoma and was also awarded the principal chair bassoon of the Oklahoma Baptist Symphony. Her performances include many with members of the Oklahoma City Philharmonic, as well some with Samuel Adler in both chamber and large ensembles.

Currently, Stephanie runs her own private music studio and is a member of the International Double Reed Society.  She is often sought out as a double-reed consultant for local schools.  Additionally, she is an adjunct faculty member of Lakeland College - Green Bay and a judge for the Wisconsin Schools Music Association.
